Tangled Threads by M.K. Eddleman will be available in paperback and eBook form at Amazon.com and Kindle on October 19, 2024.

September 5, 1755 - British treachery destroys the comfortable, hardworking life of Marie Breaux and her family, French-Acadian’s who dwell in the close-knit farming community of Grand Pré, Acadia. Lt. Col. Winslow of his majesty’s army orders all men from the hamlet to gather in their beloved church to hear the king’s proclamation. Betrayed, the men realize they’re trapped and destined to suffer internment aboard prison ships during The Great Expulsion of 1755. Horrified by the news, Marie and sister-in-law Elizabeth plot to save the youngest of their children from imminent British rule. While the youngest make a clever escape, Marie, Elizabeth, and nephew Paul find themselves captives aboard the Elizabeth, an overcrowded prison ship notorious for its cold-hearted captain. Shoved into the hold, they suffer unimaginably as excrement contaminated seawater floods the hold, tossing disease-ravaged cadavers through the aisle. However, Elizabeth bargains with the wretched captain to become his wench in return for saving her family.
An unexpected hurricane forces the ship to take refuge in Boston harbor where Marie and Paul are off-loaded and separated – Marie to an Almshouse and Paul into an apprenticeship with the harbor’s Customs Master, Piers Blasingame. Ironically, a disastrous earthquake changes their luck. Paul convinces Blasingame and his secretary, Walter Waltham, they can make money from Marie’s extraordinary weaving talents. Thus begins a seven-year apprenticeship and subsequent business adventure intertwined with hope. Will the family be reunited?

When courage calls, answers unfold with startling results. In 1967 Mississippi, Millie Howard, wife, mother of a teenage daughter, co-owner, with her husband, of the black mortuary in town, lives a comfortable life, sheltering herself from the realities of the injustices plaguing her community. Then Millie’s pastor challenges her with an offer to run a Head Start school for poor children. Sensing danger, she resists. However, events and her family convince Millie to accept the call. Soon she realizes how real the peril is.

The Klan attempts to thwart Millie and her family’s efforts with continuous harassment and acts of violence. Yet through all the adversity, the Howards and friends manage to improve the lives of underprivileged children and to secure the right to vote for their disenfranchised black community. The spirit of hope never leaves Millie, her family and friends as they triumph over vicious attempts at intimidation and continue the on-going fight for equality.
